Five-day (300 km) bicycle tour along the route traveled by my grandmother after her expulsion after World War II. From Brennik, Poland, via Ceska Lipa, Czech Republic, to Niederwiesa, Germany. Photo of the Google Maps route projected onto Vera Drebusch’s décolleté presented as a light box.

The jumping-off point for this work is a 300 km route—the route the artist’s grandmother traveled after the post–Second World War expulsion—from Brennik, Poland, through Ceska Lipa, Czech Republic, to Niederwiesa, Germany. This distance was traveled by Vera Drebusch on a five-day bike tour, and, with the help of Google Maps, was graphically depicted and projected onto the décolleté of the artist and photographed. The work is presented photographically on an LED lightbox and connects temporal, geographic, and artistic procedures to a multilayered simultaneity of artistic processes of translation. Inscriptions of biography, the corporeal, and media dissolve into each other in this work and shine through conceptually and visually in the photography—like veins through the skin and the image through the projection surface.

„Ausgangspunkt der Arbeit ist eine 300 km lange Wegstrecke – die Vertreibungsroute der Großmutter der Künstlerin nach dem Zweiten Weltkrieg, von Brennik (PL) über Ceska Lipa (CZ) bis Niederwiesa (DE). Diese Strecke wurde von Vera Drebusch über fünf Tage mit dem Fahrrad abgefahren, mithilfe von Google Maps grafisch dargestellt, auf das Dekolleté der Künstlerin übertragen und fotografiert.

Die Arbeit wird als Fotografie in einem LED-Leuchtkasten präsentiert und verbindet zeitliche, geografische und künstlerische Abläufe zu einer vielschichtigen Gleichzeitigkeit von künstlerischen Übersetzungsprozessen. In ihr überblenden sich biografische,physische und mediale Einschreibungen und scheinen in der Fotografie konzeptuell und visuell durch, wie Adern durch die Haut, und das Bild durch die Projektionsfläche.“
